Music
Halls were filled with the sound of laughter dancers singers and even the
audience could join in.
America had the
Wild West and Buffalo Bill gave his shows to entertain the folk. Totting with guns and shooting with Indians and
Cowboys the best sharp shooters around would give the folks something to cheer to.
The natural
progression led to making movies and in 1896 the Lumiere brothers in France produced
three
short films that were seen in London.
Travelling became in vogue during
this wonderful era. As Thomas Cook opened his travel agency in 1850's,
travelling by ship and rail made middle class travellers turn to them with
assistance with currency, languages and what should be seen and not seen.
They collected souvenirs from the places they visited and many keepsake
treasures that we still enjoy today.
Many of the
things that today we love were Victorian Traditions like our Christmas
cards, dinners, presents,
ornaments, decorations, statues and paintings. Christmas cards first appeared in the
shops in in 1843 that Henry Cole owned.
Our much
loved Christmas trees that we enjoy so much were introduced by Prince Albert in 1848
from Germany. Their children gathered around theirs and the idea quickly spread to the
world. The candles and presents and fairy lights that we know today came from
this wonderful time.
Of course no
Christmas would be the same without jolly Santa In 1890 Santa and whole
idea of getting presents was widely accepted to be the must thing to do
and much to delight of the young children is today one we just could do
without.
Our plum
puddings, pies, turkey dinner made the menu in 1850 on the Royal Christmas table.
The holly was used to decorate the house and all that it could adhered to.
These
are some of the reasons why I just adore and love this Era.
