Around 1890 Rocky Point

My early childhood was spent in Ramsgate, where we wandered around Sans Souci when the punt took you across to Taren Point, over the George's River.

Governor Gipps ordered the Road should be cleared so as the worshipers could get to St Peter's Church at Tempe. Convicts did all the hard work and the road was named Rocky Point Road in 1861.

The Loop in Rocky Point Road 1925 taken at an 8 hour March looking from the Chemist owned by Joseph Brokenshaw.

Rocky Point House was sold to Robert Holt who then named it Sans Souci House and it was converted to a hotel. This site is now covered by the Captain Cook Bridge.

Now the Captain Cook Bridge replaces the punt.  Taren Point before Captain Cook Bridge was built.

The Trolley buses at the 7 ways Rockdale.

The trolley buses took you to Kogarah and Rockdale Stations.

In 1926 a Steam Tram accident occurred on Rocky Point Road, on the 1st hill between Ramsgate and Kogarah. An engine left the rails trying to accelerate up the hill and killed the driver Jack Slater. The engine rolled over after it hit a power pole.
